Course Objectives

*          Students will foster an understanding of cooperative learning so that students can become contributing members for projects.

*          Students will perform as producers/directors.

*          Students will develop critical thinking skills as they research the content for their projects, visualize camera shots, write their scripts and search beyond theclassroom for resources to complete projects for broadcast on VSEN Ch.18.

*          Students will create pre-production tools: treatments, scripts & storyboards for all productions.

*          Students will perform as on air talent

*          Students will learn Non Linear Editing on Final Cut Pro 5

*          Students will develop leadership skills

*          Students will become more literate consumers of media.

*          Students will act as mentors to new TV students

Research& creating new video projects for VSEN

Set design& improvement (logo etc.)

Produce& Direct weekly segments for Wake-UPHK incorporating Ideas: Weekend Things to do -movies to rent -film critic Ð Cyber Guy ÐCougar Corner = casual introduction to faculty/student from our school community .Sports - class act and produce fun entertaining videos

 

SEMESTER PROJECTS MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Short Film Research(phase 1 )Research a famous Film Director-formal class presentation w/ sample clip

Short Film Sript Writing(phase 2) employ directors from above personal style/technique in your short film

Grades:

Grades will be obtained through four distinct forms of assessment. Each will play a role in the final calculations according to the chart below

 

Video Portfolios   50%

Video portfolios will be graded. Students will be rewarded for keeping accurate notes and records during the production process. Projects will be graded according to performance-based assessment scorecards. Recordkeeping is a very important part of job performance in the broadcasting industry.

 

Equipment/software Competencies 20%

Students will receive credit for demonstrating their ability to operate the equipment per training and written instructions handed out in class.

 

Participation/Work Ethic  30%

Includes all group projects, in class and field productions. Assessment will be accomplished through awarding points each week ,based on teachers perception of the amount contribution to class discussion, independent work on class assignments, general work ethic, and team building activities with fellow classmates.

As most work is done in class, attendance is extremely important, just as in the real world work environment. Missed work must be made up in order to receive any credit. Deduction will be made for late work.

Throughout the semester ,students will receive progress reports that incorporate the assessment forms.
