BROADCAST JOURNALISM COURSE
SYLLABUS
Course
Objectives
Students will foster an understanding of
cooperative learning so that students can become contributing members for
projects.
Students will perform as writers, on-camera talent and
studio/field video producers.
Students will develop critical thinking
skills as they research the content for their news stories, visualize camera
shots, write their scripts and search beyond the classroom for resources to
complete projects for broadcast on HKTV News.
Students will learn methods of
researching, reporting, note-taking and interviewing.
Students will learn Analogue editing & basic Non Linear
Editing on Final Cut Pro 4
Students will write and produce a story for HKTV News
Bi-monthly
Students will develop leadership skills
Students will become more literate consumers of media.

-film critic – Cyber Guy -Cougar Corner = casual introduction to
faculty/student from our school community. Sports - class act and produce fun
entertaining videos

Grades:
Grades
will be obtained through four distinct forms of assessment. Each will play a
role in the final calculations according to the chart below
Quizzes and CAPT/SAT Activities 20%
These will measure attainment of
Video production theory.
Behind every great video is a
better script!
Video
portfolios will be graded. Students will be rewarded for keeping accurate notes
and records during the production process. Projects will be graded according to
performance-based assessment scorecards. Record keeping is a very important
part of job performance in the broadcasting industry.
Students
will receive credit for demonstrating their ability to operate the equipment
per training and written instructions handed out in class.
Includes
all group projects, in class and field productions. Assessment will be
accomplished through awarding points each week, based on teachers perception of
the amount contribution to class discussion, independent work on class
assignments, general work ethic, and team building activities with fellow
classmates.
As
most work is done in class, attendance is extremely important, just as in the
real world work environment. Missed work must be made up in order to receive
any credit. Deduction will be made for late work.
Throughout
the semester, students will receive progress reports that incorporate the
assessment forms.
