English 9H/9 – We will begin working in William Gibson’s The
Miracle Worker this week. We will
begin our review and application of the elements of fiction to this
contemporary classic drama. We will do most of the reading in the classroom,
and you will be responsible for completing activities from our packet while you
are home. You will also have vocabulary
lesson to complete on Monday, and there will be a quiz on those words on
Friday. You will also take diagnostic reading and grammar assessments this week
in class. You will read and complete the questions on 2 poems “The Blind Man”
and “Deafness.”
Instructional plans for my
classes: Week of September 6th
British Lit. Honors – We
will begin with the Anglo-Saxon Period of Brit. Lit. You will be expected to read that
introductory material in the text. You
will work on solving several riddles from the Exeter Book, and look at several short pieces in Old English. With luck, we will begin Beowulf and plan for an assessment due next week.
English 11 Honors – We will
begin with the earliest American literature and you will be expected to read
the introduction in our textbook. We will also begin reading The
Crucible, a modern play about the Salem Witch Trials of
1692.
English 9 Honors – We will
begin with our exploration of the elements of fiction. This will be the overarching idea that we
will apply to all of the genres we examine this year. We will start with some
easy stories (for review) and then begin applying the concepts to more
challenging works of literature.
