Things You Can Do To Help Your Child Improve His/Her Reading

·         Set up a quiet/comfortable place to read - away from distractions such as the phone, television, computer etc.

·         Have your son/daughter leave the cell phone in a designated area away from where they are reading.

·         Agree on a designated time to read (after dinner, before bed etc.)

·         Have your child read out loud to you.  During this time you can help them with words they may not know how to pronounce or give meaning to.  You do not need to do this all the time but several times a week can be beneficial to your son/daughter and also give you insight into their struggles and improvements.

·         Check for comprehension.  I will be sending home different strategies and ideas but for starters ask your child to tell you in his/her own.
