Congratulations on making “top ten” and on everything you have accomplished so far! Below are instructions for you on the next few weeks. Please email me or call with any questions or concerns. Thanks!
Choose a song with Karaoke Accompaniment to perform on the Holiday Show. It can be any style you wish - the only restriction is that it be appropriate (aka no swears, clean subject matter
You need to get the title of this song to me by next Friday, December 14th. It is up to you to locate and secure the karaoke accompaniment. Your CD needs to be the following format: CDG or CD + G so that it will PLAY ON A REGULAR CD PLAYER- WE DON”T HAVE A KARAOKE PLAYER SO VCD or DVD KARAOKE CDs WON”T WORK!! You can find many songs that will work on ITunes. Just type in the title and the word Karaoke. You can also order CDs from Karaoke Warehouse http://www.karaokewh.com/index.cfm?RefID=439 . I have some CDs as well which you are welcome to stop in to my room to look through. Just keep in mind that you need the disc and the song title by the 14th. Please start your song search today and don’t wait until the last minute. We reserve the right to replace any of the top ten finalists with an alternate if they haven’t chosen a song by the 14th.
(Song selection is VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure you choose something that showcases your voice. Don’t just choose a song because you like it. You need to feel very comfortable singing it- all of it. If there is a section that is too high or too low or notes you are having trouble with for any reason- trust me- pick something else! Many contestants have been successful picking simple tunes- you don’t have to go crazy choosing complicated songs. Stay away songs that have been done to death- aka. My Heart will Go On, On My Own, etc…. If you aren’t sure, email me the songs you are thinking about and I will try to steer you right. If you need coaching, just get in touch. I would be happy to arrange a coaching with you any time!)
We will have a rehearsal in the TV Studio on December 20th starting at 3:00pm. You will have an opportunity to sing your song and get a feel for working with the cameras. Once you have sung you may leave, so plan on keeping your ride with you if you are not from H-K.
You need to be in school the day before the Holiday Show according to attendance policy.
We need you to arrive at H-K by 7:25am. Most contestants usually get dressed after they arrive. It is up to you what you want to wear. Many times girls wear gowns (aka prom, evening style, etc.); however, you should pick something that is appropriate for your song. Make sure that the neckline isn’t too low—we reserve the right to ask you to pin it up if it is too revealing.
Your parents are welcome to accompany you. We have a viewing room set up to watch the show with refreshments, etc. When you are not “on deck” you will sit in that room to watch the rest of the show.
Prepare to be interviewed on camera A LOT. Practice with someone answers to the following questions: How do you feel about competing in Shoreline Idol, Tell us about past experiences singing, What activities do you participate in at school and during your free time? ** Remember to smile and keep breathing to keep nerves at bay.
Students not from H-K. We will be contacting your principals to get you released from classes on the 21st. You should check with your main office by Dec. 14th to make sure that you have been released from classes and to make sure you don’t need additional paperwork or permission slips. Let me know if you run into any trouble.
Our benefit Concert is January 18th at 7:00PM. We will talk more about that event after the Holiday Show however you should keep in mind that you will be allowed one song choice - either the same song or another choice - to perform live in front of an audience. Once again you will need to provide Karaoke CD + G or CDG accompaniment with same rules as above. Plan to invite and bring all your supporters! Crowd response does help the judges to determine the winner so you want to have a LOUD and LARGE cheering section! Signs and banners are welcomed at that event.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Webster
PS- Alternates - you should prepare a song choice in case we need to replace someone for the competition. It HAS happened in the past - sometimes very last minute due to illness, etc.
