This
book is about a boy named Jonathan. His family, his dog, and him, are on a trip
at Magpie Island. They are just like any other
family but….his sister Abby’s legs are paralyzed. They are taking a hike to the
beach but when they get there his mom hurts her ankle. They are going to leave
Jonathan with his sister and dog for a while just so his father can take his
mom to the hospital. When they were walking back to the camper the ground
started to shake. Then Jonathan remembered the drills they did at school. It
was an Earthquake! His sister, his dog, and him, found a knocked down tree to
stay under until the earthquake was over. After the earthquake they found out
that Abby’s walker was lost during the earthquake. It took a long time to get
back to the camper but when they did they saw that the camper had been crushed
by a fallen tree. Jonathan made a shelter for Abby and went to check the
bridge. It had been broken! Then he ran to the beach again. It looked like the
lake was getting bigger! Then all of a sudden he realized that the island was
sinking! Read this book to find out if, and how, Jonathan and Abby survive and
get off the island in time.
I
recommend this book to ages 10 and up.
