The main character in this book is Percy Jackson. Percy is a dyslexic and ADHD positive 12 year old boy who lives in New York and is the son of, Poseidon, the ancient Greek God of the sea. The day school gets out for the summer, Percy and his mom go to the beach and see Percy’s friend Grover, a satyr (half goat, half human), who tells them danger is coming. Immediately, they race to the only safe place for Percy, Camp Half-Blood. Most of the story takes place here. Percy saves Grover and races over the camp’s magical borders. They end up safe but now the big problem arises. Someone stole Zeus’ master lightning bolt and Zeus is blaming Percy. Can Percy prove that he is not the thief by bringing back the bolt by the Summer Solstice? You will have to read this fantastical tale to find out.

This book is one of the best I have ever read. My mouth dropped straight open when Percy figured out Grover was a satyr. I couldn’t put this book down, on every page there was something exciting happening. This book gets into education by including mythical creatures from Greek Mythology so I recommend it to teachers as well as students. The Lightning Thief would be appropriate for middle school kids because anyone smaller would not understand many terms or phrases used in this book. This adventurous, mystical, and mysterious tale is one that you would never forget through all the pages you turn in your life.
