HES Stuff the Stocking Drive
 
In support of "Operation Home for the Holidays"
 
Operation Home for the Holidays was a fundraising effort initiated by Governor Rell to raise $200,000 to hire a fleet of busses to bring Connecticut Army National Guard troops back to the state this December  during a break in their training.  This was the sole opportunity to bring home the 700 members of two units - the 1st Battalion of the 102nd Infantry Regiment and the 250th Engineering Company.  Both units will be deployed for a tour of duty to Afghanistan shortly after the holidays.
 
The Haddam Elementary School  staff, recognizing the supportive families and friends in our community, suggested that in lieu of holiday teacher gifts, donations be made to "Operation Home for the Holidays".  Students raised money by saving bottles, doing extra chores at home, and bringing in bags of loose change from their piggy banks.  Through these caring efforts from students along with generous donations from families and staff, the HES community raised $1,650.00  for "Operation Home for the Holidays".   
 

 

Mentors Urgently Needed in Schools

Many of our youngsters are in need of an adult friend.  Consider passing on your experience this year!  Mentors meet with students at one of our schools usually during lunch hour for a period of approximately 30- 60 minutes. Mentors are provided training and support and many of your neighbors have been volunteering for years.

 

Care-Free Celebrations from RSD 17 Food Services

Whether it's a birthday celebration or a special occasion, let Care Free Celebrations do the work for you.  We offer a variety of items that can be picked up or delivered to a classroom.  In order to accommodate all requests, a one-week notice is required.  Look for flyers announcing this new, low cost option now available through the district's food services department.
