Week of February 8,
2010
In the very likely event that
schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, February 10th, due
to inclement weather and possibly followed by a two hour delay (at a
minimum) on Thursday, February 11th, I have decided to postpone the
half day schedules on both of these days until Wednesday,
February 24th and Thursday, February 25th. These half days will be
used for the parent conferences that were originally planned for
this week. Regardless of what actually happens with the weather over
the next 48 hours, this revised schedule will be the final as
followed. Thank you for your
flexibility.

The public
is more than welcome to attend any of the budget workshops and any
of the Budget Committee meetings. Certainly our Budget
Committee is eager to communicate effectively with the town
officials in both Haddam and Killingworth. As a Budget Committee
responsible for articulating the educational needs of the school
district in a fiscally responsible manner, we have the difficult
task of striking a balance between our educational needs and our
fiscal responsibilities.
Our committee will be monitoring activity and actions at the
legislative level most carefully, and wherever possible will be
providing input in order to protect both the educational and
financial interests of the district and our
towns.

the HKMS Swim Team for the incomplete announcement inlcuded in the
last electronic bulletin.
Haddam Killingworth Boys' Swim Team # 1 in
State
For
the first time in state history, the Brookfield Boys' Swim Team lost
the championship. Your
HKMS Boys Swim Team was the one that knocked the previously
undefeated Brookfield team Up against a huge
challenge, the nine, HK boy swimmers prevailed against teams of as
many as forty swimmers to receive their championship trophy.
On
January 31st, the HKMS swim teams competed at the state
championship meet. The
boys competition was started off by an amazing fourth place finish
by diver Gunnar
Soneson. The boys
200 Yard Medley Relay followed with a first place finish with a time
of 1:59.92 by teammates Jake Gibbons, Stuart Stritzel, Mason Revis,
and Garrett Mazziotti.
The boys
200 Yard freestyle relay finished third overall with a time of
1:59.80 with swimmers Conor Champagne, Garrett Mazziotti, Gunnar
Soneson, and Tristan Stritzel.
To
secure the victory, Mason Revis, Jake Gibbons, Tristan and Stuart
Stritzel broke the state record by 5 seconds with a stunning First Place Finish
with a time of 3:52.82 in the thrilling 400 yard freestyle
relay.
For the
individual events, Jake
Gibbons finished third in the 50 Yard backstroke (30.40). Mason Revis got fourth in
the 50 Yard Butterfly (30.25) and fifth in the 100 Yard IM
(1:07.91), Tristan
Stritzel received third place in the 100 Yard free (58.32) and
second place in the 50 Yard free (26.40). Stuart Stritzel came in
second in the 50 Yard Breaststroke (32.65), and third in the 100
Yard IM (1:05.05).
On
their own, the girls team came in a respectable eleventh place. Both teams combined to take
an overall third place, out of seventeen teams.
This
victory by the boy's team, and the third place finish of the
combined team, has put HKMS on the radar as a top middle school
team!
