Dear Parents and Citizens:

By means of this communication, I wish to extend to you my most sincere thanks and appreciation for your support of the 2010-2011 Regional School District 17 operating budget.

We as a district continue to be committed to providing a high quality education to all of our children in the most effective and efficient way possible.  This is among our most fundamental responsibilities as a public school district.

We stand committed to meeting the ever-changing variables associated with providing a comprehensive, public education experience to children while meeting the challenges of what continues to be the most difficult economic period in the history of our nation, state and local communities.

Again, I thank you for your continued display of support for our children and their individual and collective needs.

As always, I look forward with a sense of optimism to our continued work together.

Very truly yours,

Gary

Neighbors,

With good weather approaching, I had been looking for an opportunity for my daughter to run over the next few months in preparation for Fall Cross Country at HK Middle School.  With the closest summer-long program being in Portland, I thought that staying closer to home would be best. Since then,  I've been surprised to learn that the region is home to about 30 miles of state trails with 25 trailheads located off of town roads.   Over the years, I've also learned that one of the best ways to find the motivation to get off your duff is to exercise with a group.

The idea would be for those interested to gather after work at local trailheads to walk, run and bike our local trails .  There are enough trails in town that we would have very little overlap of routes.  There would be no membership, no club and no requirement to come regularly.  For those who think this might be something their family would be interested in (even if it's just once), email me back and I'll add you to a weekly mailing list.  Then, once a week, I'll send out info on the next week's start point and other information.  My current plans are to gather at 5:45 p.m. on Monday's and Thursday's beginning on May 17th.  This way, those that have M/W or Tues/Thurs regular events can make it at least once.

Regardless of whether or not this is something your family would like to do, please spread the word and forward this on to your friends.

Take Care,
