Week of October 19, 2009
The following message is sent to you by Linda Kauffman,
District Nursing Supervisor.
There are many rumors circulating in our communities about the
school holding an H1N1 vaccination clinic for all school
children. I would like to take this opportunity to clarify
what is happening. Firstly, the vaccine is only available to
local health departments and private providers who chose to receive
it. If a clinic is held it will be held by the local health
department and the CDC priority list will be utilized to determine
who will receive it. Although one of the school buildings may
be utilized it will not be a school sponsored initiative. The
vaccine will not be mandatory for students. Parents will have
the opportunity to choose whether their children will receive it or
not. The decision to receive the vaccine is an independent one
and parents should be receiving guidance from their child's primary
care physician. If and when a date for a clinic is confirmed
we will provide families with all of the necessary information.
The
schools district's web site at www.rsd17.org continues to be a
primary site where you may obtain the most current information about
the flu. Additional sites include those listed
