At a recent meeting of the Board of Education,
it voted to appoint John Sullivan, Ed.D. as Acting Superintendent of
Schools effective March 3, 2011. John is now in the process of
meeting with me to complete some, necessary transition activities.

2011 REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT 17 BOARD OF EDUCATION
ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF ACTING SUPERINTENDENT The
Regional School District 17 Board of Education is pleased to
announce that it has voted to appoint John Sullivan as Acting
Superintendent of Schools beginning on a full time basis in March.
Dr. Sullivan earned undergraduate and graduate degrees
in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University, a
Sixth Year Diploma in Educational Administration from the University
of Connecticut and a Doctorate in Education from the University of
Bridgeport. Over the duration of his career, Dr.
Sullivan served as a high school principal in both Nantucket,
Massachusetts and Wilton, Connecticut. He went on to serve as
Superintendent of Schools in Westbrook, Connecticut and later
retired as Superintendent of Schools for Unified School District
II. In retirement, Dr. Sullivan has served as Interim
Principal at East Lyme High School for two years. John
will replace Gary Mala who, as previously reported, has accepted the
position as Superintendent of Schools for the Avon Public
Schools. Dr. Sullivan will serve as Acting Superintendent
until such time the Regional School District 17 Board of Education
selects a permanent replacement for Mala. FOR
