Week of September 1, 2008
As initiated last year, I am continuing with
sending you a Weekly Message from the Regional School District
17. I hope that this initial message for the 2008-2009 school
year finds you well and having experienced a great start to the
year. This type of electronic message will be sent to
you each week for the purpose of keeping you informed about some of
the activities associated with all of your schools and the school
district as a whole. Each Weekly Message will highlight some
of the significant things happening in each school and the school
district at large over the course of any given week. I would also
quickly note that given the many positive things happening in the
district during any week, it will be next to impossible to include
all of them in every message. I hope you find
this to be a meaningful communication tool being utilized by your
school district to keep you better informed. Week of September 1,
2008 -I am pleased to announce that Kate Sawyer O'Mara, HKMS
teacher has been named the Regional School District 17 2008 Teacher
of the Year. Kate will now compete for Connecticut Teacher of
the Year. -The theme of the district this year is
"Believing is Achieving." As a means of reinforcing the
importance of this message and providing a very powerful message on
behalf of all children in our country, I encourage you to copy and
paste the following link
(http://www.nrcpara.org/paranews/dalton-sherman-i-believe-me-do-you-believe-me)
into your internet browser and watch the presentation made by Dalton
Sherman, a grade 5 student in the Dallas Independent School District
in Dallas, Texas. This clip was sent to me by one of our
district staff members and is sure to leave you emotionally moved in
some way. -There have been numerous
changes made to the district website to keep you better informed
about many things happening in the district. Please bookmark
www.rsd17.org and visit it often. -Slightly revised bus
routes for the 2008-2009 school year have been published under the
Transportation link on the district website at www.rsd17.org.
