HADDAM-KILLINGWORTH HALL OF FAME - MAY 30th
Please join us for an evening of celebration May 30, 2009 at
6:30 p.m. as the Central Administration of the Regional School
District 17 hosts the first annual Haddam-Killingworth Hall of Fame
banquet in the cafeteria of Haddam-Killingworth Middle School
located on Route 81 in Killingworth.
The first
five inductees are the first and only coaches of
the sports they continue to remain actively
coaching. Haddam-Killingworth High
School was founded in 1975 with Richard "Dick"
Dupuis (Track & Field), Patsy Kamercia (Field Hockey), Mark
Brookes (Baseball, he was a nominee for National Baseball Coach of
the year two years ago and has been inducted into the CT Hall of
Fame this past year), Richard Langer (Volleyball) and Dennis
O'Rourke (Football) being the coaches as the various sports were
introduced to the student body. These individuals continue as
the only coaches the respective programs have ever seen. This is a
unique and unprecedented occurrence in Connecticut high school
sports history and makes them deserving of a high degree of
recognition.
Please consider attending a fine
evening of recognition to five respected individuals who
collectively have contributed 175 years of service to high school
student athletes in the towns of Haddam and
Killingworth.
Tickets are now on sale for $40.00 per
person, HKHS students can purchase a ticket for $20.00. Tickets are
available by contacting Lisa Roy, Central Office Receptionist, at
(860) 345-4534 or by email request at HKHall@rsd17.org.
Please visit the District Calendar located on the district's
homepage (www.rsd17.org) to see when various events are scheduled to
happen.
Between May 19th and May 22nd, Matt
Gyorog, a parent of a student at
HES, will run west to east across the state of
Connecticut. Approximately 110 miles. That means about a marathon a
day for four days. He cooked up this adventure last year as a
way to test his physical endurance, but hot on the heels of
that he thought it would also be a great way to try
and raise money for his daughter's school music program at
Haddam Elementary School. He didn't know what to expect; the
only certainties are a strong sense of satisfaction, sore feet and
worn-out shoes. The sweetener will be a richer musical experience
for the grade-schoolers.
He has already has obtained pledges, and would be
interested in hearing
your views of how these donations can best
support the school's music
program, and in having a discussion
with you to share my views. This is a
grass-roots effort, with
little to no overhead, so 100% of the donations
will go to the
school's music program. It. He has extended a thank you to Dr.
Harris and is looking forward to raising the bar on what
I've been able to physically achieve, as well as raising money for
Haddam Elementary School!
Matt Gyorog
Joshua Meyer, a Senior at
our High School, is an Eagle Scout. As his Eagle Scout
leadership project, Joshua chose to replace a failing foot bridge
and build new benches on the trails behind Haddam Elementary
School. Joshua was required to coordinate this project
from start to finish. He had to obtain necessary permission, design,
calculate materials, organize manpower etc. to see this project
through completion.
This project was completed with great success due to one
individual coordinating several volunteers utilizing materials
donated by local contributors.
This was not an easy project to complete as the bridge is
located approximately a half mile in the woods and required
all materials to be hand carried in.Weather also
hampered this project.
Congratulations and a sincere thank you are extended by the
district to Joshua for all of your hard work.
