-The voice mail system at the HKHS and Central Office of the school district has been down and inoperable for the past two weeks.  We anticipate it being back online on September 16, 2008.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this necessary repair.
 
-The next meeting of the Education Subcommittee of the Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2008.  The following is the agenda for the meeting.

-The Board of Education Communication Subcommittee submits monthly articles highlighting various features of the school district.  Look for the October article soon.
 
-Killingworth Elementary School (KES) will host a Scholastic Book Fair from Monday, October 20th through Thursday, October 23rd, as a fundraiser for the PTO.  Families, teachers and the community are invited to attend the Fair, which will feature the theme of "Book Fair Safari!"
 
The "Book Fair Safari" will offer specially priced books and educational products, including new releases, award-winning titles, children's classics, interactive software, adult books and current bestsellers from many publishers.  In addition to purchasing books for family and friends, you can help the school build classroom libraries by purchasing books for teachers through the Classroom Book Wishes.
 
Book Fair Safari hours are:
Monday, 8AM - 3:30PM;
Tuesday, 8AM - 8PM
Wednesday, 8AM - 3:30PM
Thursday 8AM - 2PM
 
The Book Fair will be held in the KES gymnasium, 340 Rt. 81 in Killingworth.  All visitors are asked to enter the building at the Main Entrance and sign in at the office before heading to the gym.

-There are a number of Open House programs scheduled for this week.  We hope you can join us.

-The fall sports seasons are well underway at HKHS.  Please consider taking some time to support the soccer, field hockey, volleyball and football programs by attending a game in the near future.
 
-Regional School District 17 is assigned to DRG (District Reference Group) C by the Connecticut State Department of Education.  DRG's are assigned by the Connecticut State Department of Education using a formula which includes such things as community capacity to pay, housing patterns, demographic indicators, enrollments etc.

-A reminder that the district utilizes the Honeywell Instant Alert system to communicate with parents during times of emergency or to deliver messages of high importance.  Please be sure that you are registered with Honeywell (link available at www.rsd17.org) and have indicated how you wish to have messages received.  If you have questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact the Principal of any one of our schools for assistance.
