at the high school on October 24, 2010 through October 27,
2010. This visit is a part of the ten year accreditation cycle
for all Connecticut High Schools (and other secondary schools
throughout the world). The standards for accreditation are
available for review at
www.neasc.org. -DID YOU KNOW
THAT 1. The Board of Education
Communication Subcommittee publishes a monthly article in the
local press. 2. The District maintains the
specifications for all current bids under the Business tab on the
district website at
www.rsd17.org. Haddam-Killingworth
High School Project Graduation - Project Graduation has
begun planning the alcohol and drug free night of fun for the HKHS
2009 graduates. Please join us at our next planning meeting on
Tuesday, October 14, at 7:00pm in the Lower Media Center of
HKHS. The committee is still in need of a Chair (or Co-Chairs)
of the food committee. If you or you and a friend would
consider this position, please contact Kaycee Blancaflor at
kccallahan@uks.com. Hope to see you at the
meeting! There continues to be changes made
to the district website to keep you better informed about many
things happening in the district. Please bookmark
www.rsd17.org and visit it often. Please
visit the District Calendar located on the
district's homepage (www.rsd17.org) to see when the Open House
programs are scheduled to be held. We look forward to seeing

Superintendent initiates use of call
chain NOTE: A decision to dismiss early
will only be used when the threat of weather is predicable and
probable. The logic here is as
follows: 1. In some
cases, we would be dismissing students during the height of road
crews completing the treatment of the roads. It is always best
to wait until treatments are completed to a certain
level. 2. In some cases, we
would be sending students home without anyone home and without
advanced notice. We respect the fact that many people work
away from their homes. A reminder that the
district utilizes the Honeywell Instant Alert
system to communicate with parents during times of emergency or to
deliver messages of high importance. Please be sure that you
are registered with Honeywell (link available at www.rsd17.org) and
have indicated how you wish to have messages received. If you
have questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact the
Principal of any one of our schools for
assistance. If you wish to
have an announcement included in any Weekly Message, please forward
the text to Cindy Fetteroll, Administrative Assistant to the
Superintendent of Schools at fetteroll44@rsd17.org. If
you have any suggestions regarding the Weekly Message, please
contact Gary S. Mala, Superintendent of Schools at gmala@rsd17.org. Enjoy
your week and thank you for your continued
support. Gary
