Subject: Weekly Message

Good Morning:

I am pleased to be sending you this first Weekly Message from the Regional School District 17.  I hope that this message finds you well, enjoying the first part of the 2007-2008 school year and looking forward to the upcoming holiday season.

In this first message, I want to take a moment to let you know that this type of electronic message will be sent to you each week for the purpose of keeping you informed about some the activities associated with all of your schools and the school district as a whole.  Each Weekly Message will highlight some of the significant things happening in the schools and the school district at large over the course of any given week. I would also quickly note that given the many positive things happening in the district during any week, it will be next to impossible to include all of them in every message.

My hope as we move forward with this initiative is that you find this to be another meaningful communication tool being utilized by your school district to keep you better informed.

Week of November 12, 2007

A Transportation consultant from Versatrans will be in the school district next week (week of November 26th) to finalize recommendations related to our present transportation system.  Details will be provided after district officials have the opportunity to review the consultant’s recommendations.

Report Cards were distributed at Haddam Killingworth High School.

The school district has applied for state, grant funds to enhance security features at Haddam Killingworth High School and possibly other schools in the district.  The grant funds are being made available through a wealth-based, reimbursement model through the State Office of Homeland Security.

Congratulations go out to the Haddam Killingworth High School Drama Department for their production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Congratulations are extended to all Haddam Killingworth High School athletic teams who have concluded very successful seasons.  We are all very proud of you and what you have achieved.

Please be sure to check school websites at www.rsd17.org for regular updates to both teacher and school web pages.

Unfortunately, inclement weather is approaching us very soon.  Please be sure that you have registered with Honeywell so you may receive automated messages announcing any school delays and/or closures.  You may register with Honeywell via the link provided at www.rsd17.org.

The first segment of Spotlight on Seventeen will be aired on Channel 18 on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 8:00 p.m.  The session will also be made available for viewing via streaming video at www.rsd17.org to accommodate individuals who do not have access to Channel 18.  This monthly, student directed and produced series will feature taped discussions about programs and services offered by the Regional School District 17.  The first segment is a conversation with the district’s elementary principals regarding the specific steps they are taking in each of their buildings to improve instruction.  Suggestions for future topics may be forwarded to gsmala@rsd17.org.
