- On behalf of the entire school district community, I wish to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy and healthy 2008.

 

- Gary Yohe, a prominent Wesleyan University economist, has agreed to visit the communities of Haddam and Killingworth and speak about his work.  Professor Yohe, a resident of Portland, Connecticut, was part of the United Nations team that won the Nobel Peace Prize along with Al Gore for their work associated with climate change and global warming.  He will speak to our communities on the evening of February 27, 2008 in the auditorium at Haddam-Killingworth Middle School.  Time details will be announced shortly.

- Parents and residents of both Haddam & Killingworth are encouraged to share their ideas about what they wish to have considered for funding in the 2008-2009 school district operating budget by attending one or both of the following sessions.

- The district is nearing completion of a District Assessment Plan which will delineate all student assessments being used at each grade level Kindergarten through grade 12.

 

- The Regional School District 17 Board of Education is reviewing the final draft of its Strategic Plan (2007-2008 through 2010-2011).  Once approved by the Board, it will be made available through public information sessions and other communications methods.

 

- Selected students from Killingworth Elementary School participated in having some of their work forwarded to the Killingworth Town Hall for display.  Students were under the supervision of Alexis Kelsey.

 

- Please check the District Calendar of Events located at www.rsd17.org to be updated on upcoming district activities.   

 

- As inclement weather is upon us, please be sure that you have registered with Honeywell so you may receive automated messages announcing any school delays and/or closures.  You may register with Honeywell via the link provided at www.rsd17.org.

 

- An area where you may view past segments of Spotlight on Seventeen via streaming video has been established on the district website at www.rsd17.org.

 

- The second session of Spotlight on Seventeen has been filmed and will be available for viewing shortly on Channel 18 or as described above.

 

- As announced previously, Superintendent of Schools, Gary S. Mala hosts monthly office hours on the first Saturday of each month.  The monthly office hours will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and are held in the Board of Education Meeting Room located in the Central Office of the School District (former middle school).  During this time, the Superintendent will be available to answer questions you may have regarding aspects of the school district or its programming and operations.
