Dear Parents,
First, I'd like to
apologize for my error in our last newsletter. I
mistakenly stated our kindergarten open house for
incoming students was next Wednesday. It is
actually going to be held on May 20, from 2:30 to
3:10. We are mailing home invitations to the 48
students registered for kindergarten next year and the
families should get them on Monday, but I didn't want
the weekend to go by without this error
addressed.
Thank you all for participating
in our outstanding ART SHOW! I enjoyed seeing so
many families perusing our hallways and enjoying the
treats served by our dedicated PTO volunteers. I'd
like to especially thank the parents who helped to
mount, label and hang so many masterpieces. Our
hallways were bright and cheery - another amazing year
for the students of BES and our art teacher, Mr.
Granucci.
Our field trips have been
re-approved, so our students are very excited. We
were able to reschedule the Capitol trip and the US
Coast Guard Concert for the fourth graders. Our
kindergarteners will be going to Hammonasset for their
science unit this month as well.
In my last
newsletter, I mentioned our goal to send some "American"
books to our friends in China. If you would like
to send in one of the following titles, Tom
Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Charlotte's
Web, Bridge to Terabithia, Legend of
Sleepy Hollow, Rip Van Winkle, John
Henry, or books from Judy Blume, American
Girl, Arthur, Clifford, and Magic
Tree House that are new or nearly new, we would
really like to mail a package over soon. The PTO
has found a few books for us through their Scholastic
Book Fair points, but we still need more. If you
are looking for other suggestions or have ones that you
would like to send in that are not on this list, please
email me or Pat Coleman, our librarian.
For
the mothers reading this, I wish you a wonderful special
weekend. Thank you for sharing your children with
us.
Sincerely,
Eric
