Happy Holidays to all! Thanks to our PTO Decorating Committee, spearheaded by Yvette Minervino and Michele Wytas, our AP room and foyer have been transformed into a winter wonderland! To further get us into the holiday season, HES PTO hosted its“HolidayMarketplace” at the Riverhouse. With a great selection of vendors, awesome soups and a chocolate fountain, it was a great start to my holiday shopping!
On December 11th, our 3rd and 4th graders participated in a wreath-laying ceremony on Higganum green to memorialize our heroic veterans. For more information about the Wrea ths Across America organization, please visit their website at http://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/ Thanks to parent Theresa Kuchyt for organizing our participation in this special ceremony!
On December 13th from 9:00-11:00 a.m., the district’s elementary schools are excited to host our first Community Window Walk. This new districtwide event gives our community the opportunity to have a firsthand view of the typical school day. The agenda will include: an overview of school programs, guided tour of the school including visits to classrooms in session and an opportunity to ask questions. Light refreshments will be served. To help us plan appropriately, we would appreciate an RSVP to the school office. All are welcome!
On December 14th, you will be receiving your child’s 1st term report card for this academic year. We continue to update our report card as we work to align our report cards strands with the new Common Core State Standards. We hope to have the process completed over the next year as we transition to a new software program districtwide.
Recently you should have received a flyer home that outlines how our school will work together to support the HKHS Telethon fundraising effort for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries. We appreciate your generosity in helping us in our friendly competition to benefit those in need. We will collect from December 10th to the 17th. If you choose to make a cash donation, our 2nd graders would welcome the opportunity to count coins, so feel free to send in your spare change. Thanks in advance for your support!
I look forward you to seeing you sometime this month whether it is at the “Window Walk”, 4th grade & Select Chorus concert, or our annual Holiday sing-a-long. Again, very happy holidays to you and your family! (Mark your calendars for Family Read on January 4th!)
