HES Announcements

Dear HES Families,

Think Spring! We will get through this unprecedented amount of snow and ice at some point!  Until then, I have included a few announcements below that are related to our current "snow bound" conditions.  Stay warm!

ROOF SNOW REMOVAL

Our district Director of Facilities, Michael DiStefano, has informed me that Haddam Elementary is scheduled for snow removal from our roofs tomorrow, Saturday, February 5th.  This will be done by an outside contractor.  This is being done proactively as we anticipate more snow over the next several days (including tomorrow afternoon/evening!).

BOOK FAIR RELOCATED

This winter's Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by the HES PTO will be in Room 17 on the lower level of HES.  This is due to the inaccessibility of the modular (portable) classroom from the snow-logged playground and as a precaution for accumulating ice and snow on the roof of this free-standing structure.

If you are coming to the book fair during school hours, you will be asked to do a special (quick & easy) sign-in process in the office for this event.  We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.  Of course, you are free to come and go after school hours without signing in at the office.

Thanks to the chairperson, Theresa Malone, and all the volunteers who are working to make this a successful fair!

The Book Fair hours are:

Tues. Feb. 8th--8:30-7:30pm (Family Night)

Wed. Feb. 9th--8:30-6:30pm (Grand Event)

Thur. Feb 10th--8:30-6:30pm

Fri. Feb. 11th--8:30-Noon

LET'S MOVE AT RECESS!

The severe weather this winter has given us all cabin fever!  We would like the students to get outside to play, weather permitting, and will make every effort do so (on our ever-shrinking playground).  We are also planning some alternatives to give students movement during recess.  One of these ideas is to offer some indoor movement activities.  To date, we have gotten one (brave) volunteer and could really use more.  Please consider responding to the following request for Indoor Recess Volunteers:

If you don't mind getting a little physical, exercising both body and mind, we need you!  With the snowy winter season, and potential of indoor recesses, we would love to organize some movement activities for our students with your help.  If you dance, teach yoga, martial arts, etc. or if you know of anyone who could volunteer, please consider us at HES during our Winter Recess times.

As a volunteer, you would lead one grade level in an activity in our Gym, with an assigned Recess Duty Staff to assist.
