| Handling the Heat at HES
As you know, it can get
quite hot in the halls and rooms at Haddam Elementary,
especially when the outside
temperatures exceed 90 degrees. Today, your
child may come home and tell you that he/she went to a
portable classroom, the library or the gym, though they
were not normally scheduled to do so. We made
a concerted effort to get every class in an
air-conditioned room or cooler part of our building
(lower level) for at least 45 minutes for the
day. (Teachers were happy to make some adjustments
to schedules to accommodate!) Students were
also allowed to refill water bottles and get drinks from
the fountain as needed throughout the day.
Due the heat and humidity, students did not go
outdoors for recess. This was a districtwide
decision in order to keep students safe.
We are hopeful for better weather in time for Field
Day on Friday! |

PTO Gift
Hello HES Parents, A mom approached the PTO and
asked if we could collect a small donation from students
so that we may give Flo (the school's crossing guard) a
gift. I mentioned it during the last PTO meeting
and someone suggested a brick in Flo's name and a
gift certificate. If you would like to contribute,
please send in an envelope to the main office
marked "Attn: Kristy Marinaro".
Thank you so much, Kristy

We are so grateful for the dedication of our
school crossing guard! We look forward to
recognizing the important role she plays in the HES
community.
