Welcome to Haddam-Killingworth High School, Home of the Cougars

Haddam-Killingworth High School is located in Higganum, on the banks of the Connecticut River, six miles south of Middletown, and fourteen miles north of Old Saybrook. The two towns it serves, Haddam and Killingworth, comprise Regional School District 17.

The high school serves about 680 students in grades 9-12.  We pride ourselves on the comprehensiveness of course offerings available to our students. They may select college preparatory level courses as well as honors and advancement placement courses. Many of our students are involved in major academic or pre-professional programs. These include the Wesleyan University High School Scholars Program, Middlesex Community College Partnership program, Project Lead the Way, College Career Pathways with Middlesex Community College, and Connections Internships. Virtual on-line courses are also available.

HKHS also offers a variety of co-curricular activities for its students, as it is our belief that students benefit through their involvement in school life. These activities include 25 athletic programs and almost three dozen different clubs and organizations. Many of these groups meet during the school lunch/activity period. Over 75% of our students participate yearly in at least one of these activities.  Every student is part of our weekly Advisory program which connects them to a significant adult in the building as they meet to discuss topics of importance and interest.

Students here are also encouraged to give back their communities. In partial fulfillment of their graduation requirements, each student must complete a minimum of 30 hours of community service.

In October of 2010, the high school completed a very successful NEASC Accreditation process. The results of the visitation can be found on our web site.
