wish to thank Cheryl Chandler and Youth and Family for

components:
a.
actual photos from motor vehicle crashes to clearly convey the
dangerous results that driving under the influence can lead
to
b. an individual
responsible for taking a life in an alcohol-related crash
candidly discussing the impact the experience had on his/life,
including what life in prison was
like
c. several victims
who have lost loved ones or who have been injured in
alcohol-related accidents share their heartbreaking
experiences
d. professionals
(doctor, nurse, EMS, law enforcement officials) close the
presentation with personal experience
stories

WESLEYAN MATH & SCIENCE WORKSHOP
On May 19th, Mrs. Adamczyk and Mrs. Miller
brought a group of Calculus and Pre-Calculus students to
Wesleyan University for a Math and Science workshop day.
The day was sponsored by two highly respected organizations;
PIMMS (Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics and Science)
and CAMPY (Connecticut Association for Mathematically
Precocious Youth). Workshops included Alternative
Energies, Probability (Is the NFL Overtime Rule fair?),
Aerospace Engineering, Global Warming, Statistics,
3-Dimensional Graphics (Google Sketch-Up), and many
more. Students enjoyed discussion groups as well as
hands-on workshops. Some of our students even
experienced the development of a prescription drug from the
vision to the actual production. It was a great
day!
Some student comments from the
day:
"This day had an impact on my future
plans. I am actually very interested in pharmaceuticals
and biomedical devices now and it has reassured me more that
this is a possible future career. I like the research
process in pharmaceutical companies and the fact that I would
be helping people." Jeff Roberge
"I now know the
extent of the plight of a prospective medicine. I also
know how easy it is to create 3-D images on the computer using
free programs that Mr. Couture talked about." Nick
McGlynn
"Your career may not end up being
in the field you major in." Kevin
Allison
