President Barack Obama will address school children at noon on Tuesday, September 8.. According to the State Department of Education his address is designed to encourage children to stay in school, work hard, establish their goals and realize that learning is their responsibility.

The high school will air the President's twenty minute address live. Parents who wish to have their children "opt out" of experiencing the speech should email me directly at (cmacunas@rsd17.org) or send in a hand written note. No phone calls will be accepted to opt a student out. Students over the age of 18 may also opt out or in without parental consent.  Students who opt out will meet in the guidance office during the President's address.

Next week the high school will swap its Tuesday and Wednesday schedules. (Please share this with your child so he/she may prepare accordingly). Additionally, on Tuesday, the Advisory Period will be moved into the 11:55 time slot and period F will be moved into the 8:50 time slot. Since one of the topics of the advisory program is working with students on goal setting, the speech is aligned with that objective and can be achieved without any loss of instructional time.

You need only respond to this communication if you wish to exercise the "opt out" option.

Sincerely,

 Charlie Macunas
