Announcement
The high school was evacuated today at
approximately 10:30 as a precautionary measure after contained
amounts of sodium, cesium, and rubidium were discovered by a
staff member in a storage area off limits to students. The
student body and entire staff was relocated to
Haddam-Killingworth Middle School where we remained until the
discovered materials could be properly disposed of. Responders
from the Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, The Haddam Fire
Marshal's Office, the Department of Environmental Protection
and a hazard material removal company cleared us to return
around 1:30. Students arrived back to the high school in time
for the regular 2:10 dismissal.
Seniors and juniors were supervised in the middle
school auditorium while sophomores and freshmen were
supervised in the gym area. Students were offered lunch during
two high school lunch waves.
I apologize for any inconvenience the recent
disruptions might have caused for you or your children. I do
however take my responsibility to keep your children safe very
seriously; and I will continue to take precautionary actions
to see that they are.
