Along with excelling on the playing field, both young ladies achieved a cumulative, unweighted GPA (grade point average) of 3.5 or better.

3.                Drama Performance: The HK Drama department will be performing "The Door," a drama by Paul Elliot on Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m. This is the same play the students will take to competition in the middle of March. The students have been working very hard on this production and would certainly love to have you in attendance as they perform. The ticket price is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Please support our fine performers.

4.         HKHS Robotics Team:  The HKHS Robotics team competed in the CT state VEX Robotics tournament on Sunday, February 28th.  The team placed 7th out of 23 teams competing in the state and held 2nd place for a majority of the tournament.  This was HK's first year competing in the VEX tournament, but its 5th year of Robotics competitions.  This year's competition "Clean Sweep," was a competitive and cooperative game where robots work with a partnering team and compete against two other teams.  The goal of the game was to transport as many foam softballs and footballs over to the other teams area and preventing the opposing teams from scoring on your "home" area.

The team was excited with the results of this tournament and was planning to use it as a growing experience since it was the first year for this competition;  the 7th place finish was a successful surprise.  The team members are eager for next year's competition, looking to put their enhanced knowledge of this competition to work.  The Robotics team also placed 5th overall in the BEST Robotics tournament and received a birth to the Nationals in Auburn but did not travel this year.  The next competitive technology event will be the CT Electrathon held in May at Limerock Motor Speedway.  The senior Engineering Design and Development class plan to race their first vehicle ever in the competition.  The Robotics club and EDD class are both run by Mr. Ryan Kish, Technology teacher at the High School.

5.       Class of 2012: The Class of 2012 fundraiser order forms will be distributed on       Thursday, March 11th. This year the class will be selling Easter/Spring flowers. All information including flower type, price, and deadline will be provided on the form.

Class ring final payments for the Class of 2012, if not already submitted to Jostens, are due on March 11th. Those who have previously paid will receive their rings that day. Those making their final payment that day will also receive their rings.

            6.        Forensics Class: News from the HK Major Crime Division!

It seems that Barry DeBiasi aka Deebs has been found dead here at HKHS!

The second semester Forensic Science class has been busy locating, bagging and tagging evidence throughout the campus illustrating Locard's Principle and demonstrating the Chain of Custody.  The mock crime scenes are currently located in the middle Media Center, the entrance to the High School Main Office and the upper area of the Seminar Room.  These are very simple scenes packed with trace evidence and a silhouette of a body surrounded by crime scene tape.  Be sure to watch your back, Walter K. Uhler is still on the loose!

Please note that we would welcome speakers with real-life experiences in the field of forensic science or criminal investigation.  Please let us know if you or someone you know has experiences to share.

13.            From the Nurse:

All 10th graders must have a physical on file by June 15; this is mandated by the state of CT, if your child does not have one, you have received a notice from me so that you have ample time to obtain one by the end of the year.

Some students may be missing part of the physical that only a doctor can   complete; there are state requirements that are not on the sports physical forms.  If this is the case, you will receive a letter from me.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Any 9th grader that has a physical this year after Jan 1 may use that physical to fulfill the 10th grade obligation. This would be the only physical they need during their high school career, unless they participate in school sports.

Any contact information for me, and all physical and medication forms are easily obtained on our district website under "Health Services".

                                 Thank you, Grace Erhart RN

Both the Jazz band and Chamber Choir performed. The tournament was thrilling and eventually won by the "HK Alumni" team - but throughout the night the focus remained on the cause, helping the people of Haiti. The tournament itself raised $4,500 which was added to the $1,500 that was already donated by the HKHS staff. In total, the HK community pulled together to raise approximately $6,000 that was given to Mission Haiti, an organization located just outside of Port-Au-Prince.
