1. It was very nice seeing so many of
you at our Open House On the 11th. I hope you had an
opportunity to meet all your child's teachers and
sign-up for Parent conference. The conferences will be
on October 14th and 15th. If you haven't yet made
appointments and would like to please contact our
receptionist, Donna Bartolotta, at 345-8541 and she will
pencil you in.
2. Guidance News: PSAT's for
sophomores and juniors will be on Wednesday, October
15th during the ½ school day. A letter will be send home
in the near future with additional information.
3. Teachers' grades and assignments
will soon be available on the web if they aren't there
already. If you need a password to access the web
site, please contact Ed Goetz @
ecgoetz@rsd17.org.
4. Our advisory program has gotten
under way with a freshmen assembly program. Students had
an opportunity to meet their advisor and see where each
session will be held. A video entitled "Making Memories'
was also shown. The purpose of the video was to
encourage students to make the most out of their high
school experience by getting involved. This involvement
is how memories are made. I believe one regret that many
people have long after they have graduated is that they
weren't more involved while in school. High school is
time of change. It's about growing physically,
emotionally and socially. Advisors have made themselves
available to assist students along the way. On advisory
day, freshmen and sophomores will be dismissed to lunch
at 11:45 and are expected to be at their location by
12:10. To view dates and the topics that will be
discussed at each meeting, go to the district web page
(www.rsd17.org); click on the high school link and open
the Advisory link.
5. Please encourage your child
not to bring an ipod or mp3 player to school. They
shouldn't be used during school and occasionally one
will show up missing. I wish I could say that our
success rate in finding and returning the device to its
rightful owner is high, but that honestly is not the
case.
6. Check out our high school's sports
schedule on the Athletic page of the High School's web
site and try to catch a game. I know our student
athletes really enjoy having your support.
7. The Haddam Senior Citizen
Center will honor local military veterans at a ceremony
scheduled for September 19, 2008 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
at HES. Mr. D'Amato will have about 25 of his band
students play a few selections at the ceremony.
8. Students were busy this week filling
out a schedule of classes they want to take next year.
The purpose of filling out the "bubble" sheets now is to
give guidance and the various departments an idea of
what budgetary needs they might have for next
year.
sincerely,
