Parent Bulletin 5                                       HKMS                                                      February 10, 2008

1.      IMPORTANT NOTICE ALL PARENTS: please join us this week for our open parent forum on Monday (2/11) or Tuesday (2/12) or Wednesday (2/13) at 7 PM in the library media center.  Give us your feedback for the first half of the school year.

2.      Pre-orders are now due for our 5- 8 School Yearbook.  Students brought home a letter and envelope on Friday, February 1 detailing the directions for payment.  The cost is $25.  Please return the envelope with your child’s name and the payment to the main office no later than this Friday, February 15. If you did not get the flyer and envelope, there are some extras in the main office.    Please do not wait until June to buy your yearbook – we only order a minimal number of “extra” yearbooks to keep our costs down.

3.      The due date for the course registration sheets for grade 8 students entering HKHS  is Tuesday, February 12.

4.      Don’t worry if you did not get in to see your child’s teacher last week during parent conferences. Our teachers meet daily as a team.  If you wish to meet with your child’s team of teachers, please contact your child’s guidance counselor at 663-1797 for an appointment (Joan Hill grades 5 and 7 or Alan Fortin grades  6  and 8).

5.      Thank you to our parents and our students for supporting our Book Fair and for the parents who worked the fair with our media center staff.  It was a big success – the most important part of which is putting books in the hands of our young readers.

6.      Our seventh grade has been scheduled for field trips this week over four days to the DNA Epicenter at Connecticut College.  These trips were organized by science teachers, Gail Hanson and Suzanne Giuca.  Our students have the opportunity to complete a 2.5 hour lab doing DNA extraction and electrophoresis – high tech stuff for our 7th grade students.  Lunch at the Crystal Mall Food Court on the way home is part of the fun too!

7.      Winter club season is ready to go.  The listing below will help you plan for after school activities for your child.  Permission slips are required for every activity and can be picked up in the main office.  Seating is limited in some of the activities.  The clubs start at 2:50 and end at 4:00 PM unless otherwise stated on the permission slip.
