Parent Bulletin 15
Friday, May 9,
2008
1.
Thank you for your support of our school budget for
the 2008-2009 school year. We are very fortunate
here at the middle school as this budget supported several new
positions and we will be able to start the hiring
process. The
district will be posting and advertising the new positions of
part-time school counselor, a full-time paraprofessional
position (in-school suspension monitor and a part-time
paraprofessional position (mentoring program).
2.
It is with mixed feelings that I announce the
resignation of Mr. Michael Susi, our Assistant Principal. Mike is leaving H-K to
assume the principalship of North Wheeler High School/Middle
School.
Our staff is so
happy for Michael who will do a wonderful job for North
Stonington. Our
loss is their gain.
Mike will be with us through mid- summer which will
give us time to find a worthy replacement prior to the
beginning of our next school year.
3.
We also anticipate teacher openings in science and
special education due to a leave of absence and a
resignation. All
applications should be forwarded to Cindy Fetteroll,
Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools at
Central Office.
4.
Congratulations to our fifth and sixth
grade musicians who played at our spring band concert last
evening. They were wonderful! Thanks to our band
instructors: Joel Spineti, Carol Gregg and Nancy Tozzo. We look forward
to attending the seventh/eighth grade band concert next
Wednesday, May 14.
5.
We sent home mid term progress reports with our
students today.
Please remember that these are NOT final grades and
this is NOT a report card. We also mailed home
passwords for parents of students in grade 8 so that they can
access their student's grades on line. If all goes smoothly
with grade 8, we will mail home passwords for grades 5 - 7
next Tuesday.
This will allow you to check on your child's progress
through the last four weeks of the school year.
6.
Our PTO sponsored an incredible staff
appreciation luncheon today and fed almost 100 members of our
school staff. We
were overwhelmed by the creativity, quality and quantities of
the feast! I know
many of you cooked for this special occasion and we are filled
with gratitude for your kindness and support. Mrs. Strom asked that
I remind parents who did not get their dishes returned, that
they can be picked up at the main office.
7.
Mrs. Panzella, parent of Ryan Cope, is
organizing a school wide talent show to be held on Friday
night, June 6. We believe in multigenerational acts - so if
you want to shine on our stage, start practicing. Details will be
included in next week's bulletin.
8.
Next Wednesday, our students will be visited by
players from the Harlem Rockets who will talk about the
benefits of staying in the game and avoiding drugs and other
distractions.
Tickets for the Harlem Rockets Exhibition game for
Wednesday evening, May 14 are on sale at the HS main
office.
9.
Every year our school presents the
Sergeant George Dingwall Community Service Award to a
volunteer who epitomizes service to our school community. We are accepting
nominations for this year's award. Please send
nominations to me via email or in writing by June 1. The award
is announced at Class Night which this year is Friday, June
13.
10.
Our sixth grade students are getting ready for their
four day visit to Nature's Classroom. They will depart
Tuesday morning (May 13) and return to us after lunch on
Friday (May 16).
We hope the weather shines in Ivoryton those days. Many thanks to the 80
plus parent chaperones who will join our campers next week.
11.
Hopefully you will be able to attend our May
15 PTO meeting.
12.
Parents of fourth grade students: We have started the
transition process and flyers detailing all of planned
activities were sent home with fourth grade students this
week. Join us for
evening orientation sessions this month on Monday, May 12 or
Thursday, May 21 beginning at 7 PM in our auditorium.
13.
Reminder! Friday, June 13th is
the 8th grade graduation ceremony and dance. It has been
a long standing tradition at HKMS that the 7th grade families
sponsor this evening. The PTO organizers are in need of
the following food items: boxes of crackers, cubed
cheese, vegetable platters with dip, fruit platters with dip,
nut-free dessert items (brownies, cookies, cupcakes,
squares). If you are able to donate any of the above,
please e-mail Laura Roman at
landdroman@aol.com
(Please note "8th grade night" in the subject line).
Details concerning drop off will be provided later.
Reminders will be sent out in June. Thanks for all of
your anticipated
help!
Sincerely,
Mim Wagner
Principal,
HKMS
